Close To Home

up till this afternoon, the war in iraq really felt like a bad movie one would see on tv. i mean the tv networks really are making the entire thing seem too surreal to be true. then i got an email from a friend, telling me (and a bunch of other friends of mine) that one of our fraternity brothers, who is a naval fighter pilot, is stationed aboard the uss abraham lincoln, which oddly enough i had just been reading about on

now, it feels real. and i really wish it would go back to just being a bad movie. hell, i like bad movies, but this just sucks.

  1. no kidding. i kept looking closely at any pictures said to be from the lincoln to see if any showed someone who looks too big to put in a fighter plane. likewise, i haven't seen any pictures of -18s with his name on it... kinda scary. my usual envy of his occupation is tempered by an appreciation of the gravity of other side of the situation; namely, this type of thing.

  2. Damn...I had no idea. I was vacillating on this whole thing to begin with, but this is, shall we say, sobering. I'm not sure that this is the way I wanted to start my day, but the truth hurts sometimes...
